That’s why it is also used as an off-page technique that ultimately helps in optimizing the website.
These are of three types:
Paid: Under this owner of a directory charge for submission and also approves the links submitted by you in a stipulated time.
Reciprocal: As its name suggests, give and take mechanism. Under this, there is an exchange of links between you and the directory owner site.
Free: Under this one can submit one’s links at no cost, as its name suggests, but the thing is, approval of those may take a long time, that too, with no guarantee.

Directory Submission is an off-page technique that helps in optimizing one’s website. Basically, one’s own website is submitted to other’s website.
Mandatory things while submitting any directory:
1 Title: Proper title should be there, related to your business etc.
2 Meta description/ Description: Should be there of about 200-300 characters, that will reflect the nature of one’s business.
3 Tag/ Keywords: Relevant keywords or tags should be there, so that boat will read them every time.
4 Category: Keep in mind that category should be chosen correctly. For instance, if one is dealing with education sector, one has to select, say education, in the category section.
5 Owner name: It can be different for submitting different directories.
6 Owner e-mail id: It can be same, even for, different directories.
This off-page technique demands patience, but it works……………….
